Stone of the Month — July 2026
I want to tell you about selenite the way I would tell a friend over tea. Not as a list of properties or a catalog of benefits, but as an introduction to something I genuinely love and think everyone who is doing energy work should have close by.
Selenite is named for Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon. You can feel the connection the moment you hold a piece. There is something luminous about it, something that seems to catch light from the inside. Physically, it is a crystallized form of gypsum, soft enough that you can scratch it with a fingernail, formed from ancient seabed's where saltwater evaporated over millions of years. It is ancient the way only things formed slowly, quietly, in the dark can be ancient.
And energetically, it is extraordinary.
What Selenite Actually Does
The most talked-about property of selenite is its ability to cleanse. Not just itself, but everything around it. Set a piece of selenite next to your other crystals overnight and they will wake up clear. Place it in a room and it begins to shift the energy of the space, pulling out what is dense and stagnant and replacing it with something lighter. Hold it in your hands during a hard conversation, during a meditation, during a moment when your head is too loud, and it will begin to do its quiet work of clearing the fog.
It is sometimes called liquid light, and that is exactly what it feels like. Not forceful. Not dramatic. Just a gentle, persistent luminosity that lifts what is heavy and restores what has gone dull.
Selenite is most powerfully connected to the crown chakra — that center at the top of the head that is the gateway to higher consciousness, to guidance, to the version of knowing that exists beyond what the thinking mind can access on its own. When selenite is near, that channel tends to open. The chatter quiets. The clarity comes.
It also works on the third eye, sharpening intuition and helping you trust what you already know. If you have been second-guessing yourself, feeling foggy about a decision, or struggling to hear your own inner voice through the noise, selenite is worth reaching for.
Beyond the energetic work, many people find selenite helpful for emotional overwhelm. It has a way of lifting you above the sea of heavy feeling long enough to get perspective. It does not bypass emotion — it creates space around it, which is often all we need to find our footing again.
How to Actually Use It
You do not have to be a crystal expert to work with selenite. Here are a few ways to bring it in:
At Your Front Door
A piece of selenite near the entrance of your home acts as an energetic filter. What comes in with you from the outside world — the stress, the heaviness, the energy you picked up from other people — selenite helps to clear it before it settles into your space. Many people keep a piece near the front door, or just inside it, for exactly this reason.
On Your Body
A selenite wand held above your body and moved slowly from head to toe is one of the most effective ways to clear your aura. You can do this yourself. You can do it for someone you love. Move the wand along the spine from crown to base to release what has collected, or from base to crown to smooth the flow of energy. Reiki practitioners often use selenite wands before and after sessions to prepare and close the energy field.
With Your Other Crystals
Selenite is one of the very few crystals that does not need to be cleansed by another stone. It is self-clearing. This means you can use it to cleanse your entire collection simply by placing your other stones on or near a selenite slab or beside a selenite tower. Leave them overnight. They will be ready in the morning.
In Meditation
Hold a piece in each hand if you have two, or place a larger piece at your crown while you lie down. Selenite has a way of slowing the mind without effort. It asks nothing of you. It simply brings its own quiet. Many people find they go deeper in meditation more easily with selenite present.
In Your Workspace
Mental fog, scattered attention, difficulty making decisions — selenite addresses all of these. A piece on your desk or near your workspace can help maintain mental clarity through a long day, especially if you work with other people's energy in any capacity.
A Word of Care
Selenite is soft and it is water soluble, which means you never want to submerge it or leave it in a damp space. It will begin to deteriorate over time. Cleanse it energetically instead — with moonlight, with sound from a singing bowl or tingsha bells, or with the smoke of sage. The full moon is especially potent for selenite given its connection to Selene herself.
Keep it somewhere it will not get knocked around. It chips easily. Treat it with the same gentle care it offers you.
The Different Forms of Selenite
Selenite comes in several forms and each has its own feel:
- Towers and pillars are classic for room clearing and gridding a space. Place one in each corner of a room you want to keep energetically clean.
- Wands are shaped for working on the body and aura. These are the tools practitioners reach for in healing sessions.
- Slabs are flat pieces ideal for charging other crystals. Set your stones on a slab overnight and let the selenite do its work.
- Palm stones and smaller pieces are perfect for meditation, for carrying in a pocket, or for placing on the body during rest.
- Desert Rose selenite looks entirely different — formed in sand, it resembles a flower in bloom. It shares selenite's cleansing properties but also carries grounding energy, persistence, and resilience.
Why Selenite for July
July is a month of light. The days are long. The Full Buck Moon rises. The world is bright and sometimes loud and the energy can feel thick in the summer heat. Selenite is the perfect companion for this month because it works with light, not against it. It amplifies clarity. It cools what is overheated energetically. It creates a calm, luminous field around you when everything outside feels a little louder than usual.
In a month when the whole country is celebrating its 250th birthday and the fireworks are going off and everything feels a little enormous, selenite is the stone that says: here is your center. Come back to it.
We have selenite in the shop in several forms this month: towers, wands, slabs for charging your other crystals, and smaller pieces perfect for your pocket or your nightstand. Come in and hold a few. You will know which one is yours, or order intuitively online here.
Ready for a Personal Energy Clearing?
Reading about selenite is one thing. Having someone work on your energy directly is another. If you are feeling heavy, foggy, stuck, or like something has been sitting on you that you cannot quite name, Kara is available for personal energy clearing sessions both in person and over the phone.
Kara is a Body Intuitive Energy Healer, which means she works by physically feeling where energy is blocked or out of alignment in your body and addressing it directly. She has been doing this work for years and her clients often describe the shift they feel as immediate and unmistakable.
A first-time session is $55 for 20 minutes. It is a low-pressure way to experience the work and feel for yourself what changes when someone who truly knows how to read energy sits with you.
